Frequently Asked Questions
Skilled care includes intermittent services provided by licensed professionals, such as nursing and therapy, that
require clinical training and physician oversight.Non-skilled care (also called personal care or companion care)
provides assistance withactivities of daily living, such as bahing, dressing, meal preparation, light housekeeping,
and supervision for safety. These services do not require a physicians order unless specified by the payer.
For skilled services, a physician or authorized provider must certify the need for care. A home assessment is conducted to determine appropriate service levels.
Skilled home health services require a physician or authorized provider’s order and an approved plan of care. Non-skilled services may be started privately or through certain programs without a physician’s order, depending on payer requirements.
Skilled services may include intermittent skilled nursing, medication management, wound care, disease management and education, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, as ordered by the physician and authorized by the payer.
Non-skilled services may include assistance with personal hygiene, mobility and transfers, toileting, meal preparation, light housekeeping related to the patient’s care, medication reminders, and companionship. Services are based on the agreed service plan.
A comprehensive assessment is completed at the start of care. For skilled services, a licensed clinician develops a plan of care in collaboration with the physician. The plan is reviewed and updated as the patient’s condition changes and at required intervals in accordance with regulatory and payer guidelines.
Start of care timelines depend on receipt of the complete referral, physician orders, payer authorization, and the patient’s readiness for home care. Our team coordinates with the referral source to initiate services as promptly and safely as possible.
All caregivers and clinicians undergo credential verification, background screening as required by law, competency validation, and orientation. Skilled services are provided by licensed professionals. Care is supervised in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations, and performance is monitored through ongoing quality assurance activities.
Patients have the right to be informed about their care, participate in care planning, voice concerns without discrimination or retaliation, and receive services in a manner that respects dignity, privacy, and property. A full statement of patient rights and responsibilities is provided at the start of care.
